please please please please don’t make me register to post a comment on your blog. I won’t do it. (well, I did one time, but never again LOL). Don’t make your visitors jump through hoops to leave a comment; make it as easy as possible. unless you just don’t want any comments at all. (in that case stop reading here)
Also, if you’re using wordpress – which you should be – use akismet to protect your site against spam, that’s really all you need. if you feel like you need another level, please try to avoid captcha. Lately, I’ve had a lot of problems with captcha – I type it in correctly, but it’s not recognized. (I just tried to contact a fellow blogger to say how much I love her site, and after I wrote the message and hit submit, I got a “captcha was not recognized” error or was it really an error? there was no confirmation. I don’t know, but after trying again several times, I gave up)
I use the c forms and TDOMF plugins on all of my blogs and for extra spam protection, I use the “question” field instead of captcha.
also, use commetluv to display your commenter’s previous blog posts with their comments (they’ll love you for that) and thank me later (thanks carla for letting me know about that one!) to send a follow-up e-mail to someone who leaves a comment about 2 days later. these are great ways to keep your readers engaged with your site.
most important: make it easy for people to communicate with you. or they won’t.
do you register on blogs to leave a comment? do you ask readers to register on YOUR blog to leave a comment? why??

Yes! Thank you for brining that up. Fooled me once, LOL. I don’t comment or even revisit blogs that forces you to register. I get the feeling that people who have those blogs really don’t care about visitors.
you’re right carla – i would actually love to hear from people who DO require readers to register…what’s the reason? i mean, if i comment on a blog all the time, and can register to avoid having my comments moderated, then that might be an incentive, but i don’t want to have to login everytime i want to leave a comment either…
i have never ever registered, except once to jezebel, then i got so frustrated i didn’t leave the comment
i’m also about to stop commenting on blogs that use captcha… jesus sometimes it takes 3 times to get it right. it sucks.
I usually don’t post on Blogs but ya forced me to, great info.. excellent! … I’ll add a backlink and bookmark your site.
