Marissa of The Well-Appointed Catwalk
I started blogging in February as a creative outlet. My blog focuses on design in all its forms – industrial, interior, architectural and especially fashion.

5 things I’ve learned about blogging:

  1. The best way to garner a following is to comment on others’ blogs! Nothing seems to be more important. Show genuine interest in others, and they will show genuine interest in you.
  2. It’s okay to take a break. Sometimes, the inspiration just isn’t flowing. Taking some time for yourself to de-stress always brings me right back to where I want to be. (And nobody wants to read a post that feels forced anyway.)
  3. Make use of social networks. Independent Fashion Bloggers has been the most helpful tool in getting my blog up and running, while Twitter and Facebook can be as important as a blog itself when it comes to spreading the word.
  4. Don’t recycle, upcycle. There’s nothing wrong with finding inspiration in other blogs or news sites, but think about what you have to add to the discussion. It’s always more interesting to share a new viewpoint than to repost information that can be found elsewhere.
  5. Find your voice. It took me quite a while to bring my personality into my blog. Even if you like to keep your identity semi-private (like me), your voice is what differentiates your blog from all the others. Don’t be afraid to share opinions and anecdotes.
