Diya of In Her Stilettos
I’m a nerd studying chemical engineering & biochemistry at UT Austin that’s trying to find my own voice in fashion. I started my blog in January of 2010 because I felt like there weren’t any fashion blogs by people outside of the creative industries (fashion, art, music, photography).

5 things I’ve learned about blogging:
- You will never know who’s reading your blog: I’ve been searched out by ex-boyfriends, glamour.com, stalkers, fellow nerds, my chemical engineering advisor and old high school friends!
- You will realize just how many people share your interests, down to a tee. I always felt like the only girl in engineering or science that liked fashion until I started blogging. Now I email back and forth with so many girls that are getting Ph.D’s in physics or are biochemical engineering professors. I’ve even gotten an email from a fellow bollywood music lover!
- You WILL have critics. Not only is not everyone’s going to be your biggest fan, the internet’s allowance of anonymity will produce nasty posts, forum topics, and remarks.
- Don’t let your blog be a source of stress. Sometimes I have to keep in mind that my blog’s a creative escape, not one more thing on my to-do list.
- The best benefit from your blog is not an audience, press features, or job opportunities. I’ve found that the thing that keeps me blogging is the amazing friends I’ve made along the way.

I started blogging on Jan 2, of this year. I love it. I think you put together a really good list there. I feel fortunate that I have only had one mildly negative comment, in 244 posts. Keep up the blogging.
I totally 100% agree with #5
I’ve met some extraordinary women!
So true and I totally relate to number 4 I sometimes get streesed about my blog but I have learnt to treat it as a hobby and an escape. Really enjoyed reading this xoxo
